Alex is a young woman with a rare, genetic, neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Alex graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a degree in Rehabilitation Services in December of 2016. During college, Alex realized that advocating for people with disabilities was her passion. She spent 6 months doing an internship, before she graduated college, working at a transitional facility for adults with various intellectual disabilities. During this time Alex demonstrated not only her love for advocating for people with disabilities, but her unique skills and ability to connect and impact others lives in a significant way. Alex graduated and began a new journey living in the city of Chicago where she currently resides. After searching and trying to obtain employment in a field that she loves with no success, Alex began to have a different vision. She started an Instagram account where she started blogging about her disability and fashion, which has been growing significantly ever since its inception on Dec 15, 2017. Alex was empowered by the support of her followers to create something meaningful to herself and others. Since then, she has been featured on Daily Mail, Barcroft Media’s Born Different Series, amongst several other media outlets. Her story has been gaining public visibility as she eloquently shares her thoughts about disability representation with an emphasize on disabled bodies.
